Day 1

On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Check in and spend the morning relaxing at the hotel. In the afternoon you will embark on an excursion covering the city’s attractions as follows:

  • Giraffe Center: This is a conservation center for the rare Rothschild giraffe, which you can view up close and feed. The centre affords you an excellent opportunity to take some unique photographs of this truly magnificent animal.
  • Bomas of Kenya: This is a cultural centre and offers shows on a wide variety of Kenya’s cultural practices. Different tribal homesteads (‘bomas’) have been erected at the centre, depicting traditional lifestyles of Kenya’s different tribal groupings. In the main hall, dancers in costume perform various tribal dances in exciting displays of colour and throbbing drums.

Overnight stay                                                           Nairobi

Day 2

After breakfast depart for the Great Rift Valley via the Mau Escarpment. Stop over at the Kijabe View Point overlooking Mt. Longonot and the sweeping valley down below.

The route takes you past the tiny historical Italian Church at Kijabe, past Lakes Naivasha and Elementaita and eventually Nakuru.

Your next destination is the Lake Nakuru National Park, one of the most significant habitats of the region. The park takes its name after its most fascinating feature, Lake Nakuru. This is one of the most important habitats in the region, and an ornithologist’s paradise with over 450 species of bird life on record, the most famous of which is the pink flamingo. The park also boasts abundant wildlife and is a Sanctuary for the endangered white and black rhinos. This is also an important habitat for primates. You will arrive in time for lunch. Embark on a late afternoon game drive in search for the lion, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle, and view the myriad of bird life especially along the waterfront.

Primates are well represented by the somber olive baboon, the black faced vervet monkey and colobus monkeys.

The scenic Lake Nakuru National Park is located a stone’s throw away from Nakuru, the town. Though not very large, this is one of the most famous of Kenya’s parks.

Day 3

Early morning game drive. Check out after breakfast and head due southeast of the world renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve. It is the northern extension of the equally famous Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The Reserve is widely acclaimed as the best location in Africa to view big game all year round. The landscape is mostly expansive golden savannah with riverine gallery forest, permanent marshes and dense shrub land. The Mara is the stage of one of the world’s greatest phenomenon, the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest, zebra, eland and gazelle move north from the Serengeti, across the Mara River, many falling prey to crocodile and opportunistic lions. Like clockwork, the migration takes off in July and continues through to October, annually – a once in a lifetime experience for travelers to the Masai Mara. Arrive in time for lunch and check in at a luxurious camp or lodge.

After lunch and relaxation, embark on a late afternoon game drive in the vast Mara in search of the ‘Big Five’ i.e. the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, hippo. Other species include the giraffe, zebra, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, cheetah, kongoni, wildebeest, eland and many others. The Reserve also boasts over 400 species of birdlife.

Dinner and overnight stay                                              Masai Mara National Reserve

Day 4

Arise at the crack of dawn for an early morning game drive. A highly recommended option is to take a balloon safari. There is nothing more awe inspiring than to rise up silently into African skies and float gently over the Mara while watching the golden red sun rise over the horizon and dusk turn to dawn. As the plains turn to life, you will see below thousands of animals come out in search of food. After the balloon safari, you will be treated to a sumptuous champagne breakfast out in the wilds. A game drive will be taken after breakfast.

Lunch will be taken at the lodge/camp.

Other optional activities include:

  • Walk within the vicinity of the camp with a naturalist.
  • Trek within the Mara with a Masai guide
  • Balloon safari
  • Cultural visit to a Masai Village

After relaxation, embark on a late afternoon game drive in the Reserve.

This is the oldest hotel in Kenya. The town is a maze of narrow winding alleys. Only 1 vehicle that of the District Commissioner exists on the island, and there is only 1 street on which it can move. Means of transport on Lamu Island is either by foot, donkey back, or by boat.
