Kenya Culture Bonanza Safari

Day 1

On arrival you will be met by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel.

In the afternoon you will embark on an excursion to learn about the different cultures in Kenya with visits to the following:

Bomas of Kenya: This is a cultural centre and offers shows on a wide variety of Kenya’s cultural practices. Different tribal homesteads (‘bomas’) have been erected at the centre, depicting traditional lifestyles of Kenya’s different tribal groupings. In the main hall, dancers in costume perform various tribal dances in exciting displays of colour and throbbing drums.

Maasai Market: The popular Maasai Market is a colourful and vibrant market and is a must visit for visitors wishing to shop for authentic African works of art and craft. On display is enormous amounts of African inspired beaded jewellery, belts and other craft, copper, brass and silver-ware, carvings and sculptures, leatherworks, basketry, woven goods, kikhoy and tie and dye fabrics, batik and other art-works etc

Day 2

After breakfast your tour guide will brief you on the highlights of your safari. Check out from the hotel and proceed to the Mt. Kenya Region through vast pineapple plantations and lush green hilly terrain. Snow-peaked Mount Kenya that looms high over the region is the second highest mountain in Africa.

Proceed to Mount Kenya Safari Club. It is built on a ridge facing Mt Kenya, the site is truly magnificent.

Enjoy late afternoon tea while enjoying the vibrant traditional dance displays by the locally renowned Chuka dancers

Day 3

Depart from Mt. Kenya after breakfast and travel southwards to the Great Rift Valley and watch the landscape change from lush green hills to the sweeping golden plains of the savannah.

Arrive in time for lunch at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort. The lodge is perched on the side of the Eburu Escarpment at about 7,000 feet above sea level. From this perfect vantage point, you can enjoy some of the most magnificent views in all of Africa, including Lake Naivasha that shimmers down below it.

After lunch putting on the 6,580 yard, 18-hole golf course that has lush fairways and sparkling lakes.

Facilities include a driving range, practice greens, tennis courts and freeform swimming pool.

Accommodation is in the form of well-appointed rooms and beautifully built and exquisitely furnished cottages, making this a perfect setting for a family holiday.

Day 4

After breakfast, head further south to the magnificent Maasai Mara wilderness that forms the northern extension of the equally famous Serengeti Plains in Northern Tanzania. The Mara offers one of the best opportunities in Africa for big game viewing all year round.

The Mara is the land of the ‘Big Five’ i.e. the elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo. Numerous other species abound including the giraffe, cheetah, zebra, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles, wildebeest, antelope, topi, kongoni, hartebeest, eland, warthog, silver-backed jackal, spotted hyena among others. Between late July and September visitors to Kenya have the unique opportunity to see and experience the Great Migration. At this time, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and other plains game undertake a life and death struggle to cross the crocodile infested Mara River, from the Serengeti, in search for greener pastures.

After a light lunch, embark on a game drive with visits to the Crocodile and Hippo Pools on the Mara River

Day 5

After breakfasts embark on a cultural visit to a Maasai Manyatta where you will learn different aspects of Maasai culture and enjoy traditional Maasai dance displays.

Enjoy a game drive in the Mara.

Optional activities in the Mara include;

  • Bush walks with excellent resident guides and Masai naturalists
  • Hot air balloon rides for breath-taking views of the landscape and game followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush
  • Delicious bush breakfasts, sundowners and dramatic candle lit dinners by the Mara River

Day 6

After an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and enjoy a game drive as you leave the Mara Game Reserve.

Enjoy lunch at any of the numerous specialty restaurants on arrival in Nairobi. Transfer to the airport to catch your afternoon flight to Lamu. This is an island off the north eastern coast of Kenya. Declared a World Heritage Site in 2001, Lamu has enjoyed a 700 hundred year history of continuous settlement by its various visitors.

On arrival, you will be met at Manda and transported by boat to the lodge located on the edge of a pristine 14-kilometer stretch of palm fringed beach. Check in at your hotel.

Spend the afternoon leisurely by the poolside, or explore your surroundings

Day 7

9.00 am After breakfast, depart from the hotel on an excursion around the Lamu Island with a visit to the historic Lamu Town.

Optional activities include:

  • Visits to Lamu’s historic mosques, markets, and museum
  • Visits to meet the fishermen and boat builders of Kipungani Village
  • Snorkeling and diving on the reefs off Kinyika Rock and Manda Toto (November – March)
  • Wind surfing in the sheltered Lamu Channel
  • Creek or deep sea game fishing
  • Sail aboard a traditional Arab dhow
  • Day trips to the ancient ruined forts of Manda Island

Meals and overnight stay at                      Kipungani Explorer- Lamu

Day 8

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Nairobi.

Afternoon is spent at your leisure with last minute shopping for souvenirs.

After dinner transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.
