Worldfamous for the congregation of the Lesser Flamingo
Lake Nakuru is a shallow strong alkaline lake set in picturesque landscape of surrounding woodland and grassland. It also has a stretch of alternating rock cliffs and outcrops and stretches of acacia woodland and rock hillsides covered with Euphorbia forest.
The Lake Nakuru Park started as bird sancutary but later upgraded to National Park status as it has the largest Rhino population along with other animals. Birds are over a million flamingo which feed on Cyanophyte Spirulina Plantesis hence their pink coloration.
The park has unique topography as it is bounded by the Menengai crater to the North, Bahati Hills to the North East, The Lion Hill Ranges to the east, Eburu crater to the south and Mau Escarpment to the West. Three rivers drain into the lake i.e. Njoro, Makalia and Enderit.

A third of the park is under the lake and also provides a home for over half a million pelican. It covers 188 Km Square.
Wildlife Birds: Upto 1.5 million flamingo, around 0.5 million pelican plus about 450 species of other birds Restocked Mammals :Lion, Black & White Rhino and the endangered Rothschild's Giraffe. Other Fauna: Thompson's and Grant's Gazelle, the rare Long-eared Leaf-nosed Bat, Colobus Monkey, Rock Hyrax, Hippo, Leopard, Lion, Rhino, Waterbuck, Impala, Gazelle, Stripped Hyena, Bat-eared Fox, Wild Cat, Reed-buck and Golden Cat. Access Roads:The Park is 160 km North-west of Nairobi at Nakuru. Take A104 road(Direction Naivasha).
