The park lies in Isiolo District; the Northern Foot of Mt. Kenya. The reserve is a huge semi-arid expanse inhabited by various Nomadic Pastoralist communities whose livestock co-exist with wildlife.
Unlike other wildlife areas, the reserves which are populary known as the Samburu Ecosystem, sustain diverse free ranging wildlife species. It can be visited all year round.

Wildlife Besides normal wildlife species found elsewhere in Kenya, the area is a natural home to the five rare Nothern species whcich are endemic to this area. The species are Grevy's Zebra, Reticulated Girrafe, Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich and the Gerenuk. It is also the home to the very endangered Williamson's Lark AccessRoads: 280 km From Nairobi through Nanyuki on tarmac road to Isiolo. Then 22km murram road to the park gate Airstrips:Buffalo Springs Airstrip is used for scheduled flights each day linking the reserve to other toursim destinations.
