Identify unknown & Rare Birds at Arabuko
Arabuko Sokoke is the largest existing fragment of the Tropical Forests that covered much of the East African Coast; a very important habitat for endangered Bird and Mammal species.
It is an important monument as a remnant of the coastal tropical forests and was proclaimed a Crown Forest and Gazzetted in 1943. Part of it was declared a Strict Nature Reserve. Located 110km north of Mombasa.
The rare Clarke's Weaver Bird
The park has easy trail good for birders with rare birds like Sokoke Pipit Amani Sunbird, Fischer's Turraco and Clarke's Weaver
The park covers 6 square Km with moderate weather of rainfall of around 1000mm annualy. It can be visited all year round.
Arabuko Sokoke Scops Owl
Major Attractions Largest remnant of coastal tropical forests. Endemic Bird species, butterflies and mammal species. Wildlife Golden-rumped elephant-shrew, Sokoke bushy-tailed Mongoose, Ader's Duiker, Waterbuck, Buskbuck, Civet, Bloched Genet, Caracal, Sykes' Monkey and Birds. Most of the named animals are only found in tropical coastal forests, Eastern Afica. Access Roads: Through Mombasa (Tarmac road - 75km) and also through Malindi. Air: Malindi and Mombasa Airports. Activities Bird Watching, Butterfly Watching, Walking Trails and Game Viewing.
